Rundown on Reason 8: What to Expect from this DAW

Picture
Reason is a DAW Software that was founded by Swedish company, Propellerheads. After having plenty years in the music production game, Reason has finally landed with Reason 8, the most advanced version of the software to date. Here are a few things that you should know before purchasing this new software:

  • Reason 8 is opened to as many creative ideas as possible. If you are a musician, singer, music producer, sound designer or even someone who likes to do music for fun, this is the software for you.

  • It is very simple to set up. If you are coming off of Reason 7, you can just upgrade your software to Reason 8 after purchasing it and you are set to go. You should have a USB Key with the software that should override and upgrade everything you have so you you can move from Reason 7 to Reason 8.

  • It is very simple to use and you can just “drag and drop” MIDI racks onto your screen. This gives you a virtual studio approach unlike other DAWs.

  • You can also use certain parts of your screen to increase your efficiency on Reason 8: sequencing section/mixing section as well as rack layout section.

  • Unfortunately, we aren't going to be introduced to any new sub-hardware within Reason 8. Hopefully Reason 9 comes out with something innovative to make up for it.

  • You can use various MIDI controls and keyboards to perform on Reason 8. You can also record vocals and mix them too. I'm not really a fan of recording vocals on Reason 8, but if you are experienced in doing it go for it.

  • Purchasing Reason 8 as an upgrade is only $129.99. If you were to buy it as a brand new customer, it would be $399.99.
